A woman escaped death narrowly after she was attacked by a leopard while fetching firewood in a village near the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
The victim, who was alone in a thicket, reportedly encountered the beast on Christmas Eve at Aitong area.
Narok Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Senior Warden Bernard Koruta said the woman escaped with some injuries on her hands, face, head and back.
“She had gone to fetch firewood to prepare super for her family when the incident happened. She is lucky to be alive because moments after the attack she raised the alarm which scared the animal,” Koruta said.
He added that the victim is entitled to compensation for injuries following the new Wildlife Conservation and Management Bill recently passed by Parliament.
