Three former students of the University of Nairobi who were arraigned in court ten years ago for rape and violent robbery will go through trial again.

The three appeared jointly with one co-accused before a Nairobi magistrate’s court yesterday, following an order by the High Court two weeks ago that they should be tried afresh.

Two High Court judges, Mbogholi Msagha and Lydia Achode who heard their appeals ruled the four be subjected to fresh trial.

The former students, Victor Mwenda Mulinge, Gordon Onyango Wanyanga alias Iron and George Mungai Wanjiku alias Jijo Brown were jointly charged with David Mutugi Mwangi alias Beast for allegedly committing several violent robberies and raping women in Langata Estate.

They committed the alleged offences in Ngei Two Estate within Langata, Nairobi County.

The four had jointly been charged in 2003 with Bernard Onyango who was then a student at the University of Nairobi. Onyango was acquitted by the High Court.

The four who appeared in court yesterday denied a charge of violently robbing James Nguo of his car and personal items valued at Sh1.4 million.
