Women, skimpy is not the new sexy

KENYA: Some time back, singer Janet Jackson had wardrobe malfunction at Super bowl. Singer Justine Timberlake with whom she was performing, snatched part of her bustier — as part of choreography — revealing Janet’s breast in front of more than 89 million TV viewers.

People got embarrassed and complained. Janet Jackson — who had gained huge publicity afterwards anyway — apologised. Since then, every other upcoming female artiste — desperate for publicity — has been trying to pull almost similar stunt.

Closer home, during the grand finale of a local reality TV show, a lady was invited to perform.  To the disappointment of many viewers, she dressed so inappropriately that those she was meant to entertain were left with tongues wagging.

Disdain could be seem written all over their faces.

Her short skirt kept sliding up her thighs leaving fans — watching the show across East Africa — to see more than they had bargained for. Well, some men, of course, enjoyed the view and rushed to YouTube to watch the clip over and over again.

 However, sober-minded fans were not amused at all because the programme is rated as a family show.

And was being broadcasted during family time.

The singer is allegedly a praise-and-worship-session leader in her church. What kind of a role model is she to younger girls?

Hata kama ni kutafuta pesa vitu zingine haifai (even if its all about the money, decency must prevail),” one of my friends posted on her social media account.

Interestingly, there many such-like women.

If you are a woman and you think dressing skimpily is the way to get men’s attention, sorry, men nowadays go for brains. It doesn’t matter how educated you are or your social class, skimpiness downgrades you to the level of a woman of easy virtues.

Therefore, don’t take offence when a man views and treats you like one.
