Rise in child abuse worries governor

BY NICK OLUOCH

Migori county: Migori Governor Okoth Obado has expressed concern over the increase in cases of child labour reported at Nyatike gold mine in the county.

Mr Obado said his government was keen to see that the vice is completely eliminated.

In a speech read on his behalf by his Deputy Mwita Mahanga during the celebrations to mark Kenya@50, the governor said he had instructed relevant authorities both at county and national level to act decisively to end the vice.

“My government will not tolerate any form of abuse in the county 50 years after independence,” he said, adding that children’s rights remain a priority of his administration.
