Elgeyo/Marakwet , Kenya: A 31-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his father in Marakwet East district following a dispute over cooking sufurias.
The deceased, identified as Joseph Cheptoo Maiyo, is said to have gone to his parents’ home in Samar village, Chepkum location and forcefully made away with cooking sufurias attracting the fury of his elderly father.
Maiyo who reportedly married recently lived with his wife in a rented house in Kerio Valley region while the father lives in the escarpment, five kilometers away.
The situation turned ugly when the father and his son fiercely confronted each other degenerating into a fight before the deceased wrestled the old man to the ground and escaped with one of the sufurias.
According to a shocked neighbour, Antony Chepkwony, the old man armed himself with a bow and a poisoned arrow and followed his son in hot pursuit towards the trading centre where he lives.
“It was at the trading centre that he shot the deceased with a poisoned arrow piercing him on the stomach through to his spinal cord,” said Chepkwony.
Good Samaritans rushed him to Mogil Health centre, seven kilometers away, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Chepkwony said the two had been habitually quarreling but nobody knew their differences would turn tragic.
Area OCPD Philip Opiyo said they have launched investigations into the incident and will soon arrest the suspect who is still at large.
“We have launched a man hunt in a bid to arrest him and charge him with the murder of his son,” said the police boss.
The body of the deceased was moved to Iten district hospital for postmortem examination.
