Buddha the inspirational internet fat cat dies of heart failure aged six

An obese cat who became an inspirational online sensation after video of his weight loss regime - which included workouts on an underwater treadmill - went viral, has died.

Buddha, 6, from Nashville, Tennessee, weighed 31.4lb when he started his diet and exercise regime in August. He reportedly got down to 24lb, just 4lb away from his target weight, but a congenital heart defect meant he couldn't keep up with his exercise.

Buddha died on Thursday night of congestive heart failure.
