Nyandarua, Kenya: Former head teacher in Engineer division, Nyandarua County has been nabbed growing bhang in a greenhouse.

The bhang worth millions of shillings was discovered in the state of the art greenhouse where tomatoes were also been grown.

Incidentally, last year CID officers raided a farm in the same area and discovered poppy plant which is used to manufacture heroin.

On Thursday morning, regular and administration police officers raided one of the leading farms where they discovered the drugs.

The retired teacher identified as Kariuki Muthumbi alleged that the bhang belonged to his close friend.

“My friend requested that I lease him a section of the greenhouse to grow some flowers and am shocked to learn that it’s bhang,” he said.

Senior government officers who visited the vast farm expressed their concern over an increase in bhang growing in the area with many farmers planting it in greenhouses.

Addressing the press, Nyandarua South OCPD Samson Munyao said they were acting on a tip-off from members of the public.

He said that initial details indicated that the former teacher has been in the business for years before his illegal trade was exposed.
