A Mombasa court has issued summons to two Scotland Yard detectives to testify against British terror suspect Jermaine Grant, who is charged with preparing to make bombs to kill US and British citizens on the Kenyan coast.
Yesterday, Mombasa senior principal magistrate Joyce Gandani ordered Steve Ball and David Atikson to be present in her court on February 17, next year to testify against Grant.
Grant and two other terror suspects Warda Breik and Frank Ngenye Ngala have denied that on December 20, 2011 at Kisauni in Mombasa they conspired to make bombs and kill innocent people.
“I am forced to adjourn this trial until next year because we will be only two magistrates in Mombasa because the others are going to attend a special general meeting in Nairobi,” said the magistrate.
Ms Gandani also ordered the police to produce the occurrence book (OB) of December 20 at the port where Grant and his co-accused was booked after being arrested.
The judge ordered the OB produced after Grant’s lawyer Chachi Mwita applied for it to help him raise some issues related to Grant’s arrest.
The magistrate asked Deputy Public Prosecutor Jacob Ondari to ensure the British police and the OB was brought to court on that day.
During the hearing, Corporal Samuel Ouma told the court that detectives arrested Ngenye with a phone he was using to communicate with Grant and Fuad Mwanswar Abubakar, who jumped the bail.
