Kenya: The Wiper democratic movement party has said it will marshal all Members of Parliament affiliated to CORD coalition in rejecting the controversial media bill.
Addressing the press after a two day party retreat, party chairman David Musila said all CORD legislators will be having a common stand when the bill that was returned to the house by the president comes up for the debate.
Musila said it was wrong for the state to gag the media adding that passing the bill would lead to a dictatorial government in the new era.
“The party is alarmed by the seemingly emerging trend by the Jubilee government to muzzle the media and the civil society”.
He noted that the government was using its strength to pass laws that were intended to harm various sectors, compromising the gains made democratically in the country.
“The numerous back door miscellaneous legislations being brought to Parliament has made everybody thinking about what the government is trying to do”.
The Kitui senator hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta for disbanding six Judicial Service Commissioners saying he was interfering with independent institutions.
“The emerging interference with the Judiciary is wrong and we should let independent authorities work according to the constitution”, he said.
On national issues, the party called on the government to institute measures to curb the rising insecurity in the country.
