Governor: Waive fees for learners with disabilities

Kitui, Kenya: Kitui Senator David Musila called on the Government to waive all the fees and upkeep money on pupils and students with disabilities.

He also called for the setting up of a university that would cater for the need of such students, saying most of those who finish secondary school end up doing menial jobs.

Musila said such initiatives would help the students undertake their studies without disturbances.

Musila said it is unfortunate that most students with various disabilities have been dropping out of school due too lack of school fees.

“The Government should take the responsibility of helping the children achieve their goals, particularly in the education sector. We should ensure we have a university for the students (with disabilities) who are bright and who can be trained to become surgeons,” he said.

He spoke at St Lukes School for the Deaf in Embu County yesterday during the commissioning of three classrooms built by the National Fund for People with Disabilities.
