The Independent Electoral Boundary Commission (IEBC) has warned officials who will man the forthcoming by-elections that they will bear responsibility for any errors committed individually.
Speaking in Nyaribari Chache while clearing candidates for the December 19 by-election, IEBC Commissioner Abdullahi Sharawe said no staff member would be spared if they flouted elect laws.
The commission is under pressure from political parties and candidates to avoid repeating errors witnessed in the last General Election.
“We are losing millions of taxpayer’s money in repeat polls due to errors committed by individuals. The courts noted these errors and ordered us to repeat elections but nobody was convicted of any electoral offence.
“Perhaps it is time we went further to find out if these irregularities are punishable and go for individuals instead of the whole commission,” said Sharawe.
He said all commission staff had been warned, adding that none of them was above the law.
