Bungoma, Kenya: Three candidates have been cleared by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to contest for the Bungoma senatorial race.

Former Cabinet Minister Musikari Kombo, Former Bumula MP Bifwoli Wakoli and journalist David Makali received the IEBC green light Thursday, a day before official campaigns kick off.

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula is also expected to be cleared Friday in what now sets the stage for a bruising supremacy battle set for December 19.

First to be cleared was Labour Party of Kenya candidate Wakoli. An hour later, Kombo accompanied by Amani leaders Musalia Mudavadi, Eugene Wamalwa and Dr Reginalda Wanyonyi arrived with hordes of supporters chanting pro-Kombo songs.

Wakoli exuded confidence in capturing the Bungoma senate seat and warned his competitors not to underrate him at their own peril.

Speaking after being handed his nomination certificate, the former Lands Assistant Minister said those viewing him as an underdog will be shocked after the results of the by-elections are announced next month.
