Suspects in Nyakach MP parents’ killing freed for lack of evidence

Kisumu, Kenya: Six people suspected to have been involved in the killing of Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor’s parents have been set free for lack of evidence.

The six were arraigned before Nyando Resident Magistrate Paul Wechuli Monday at around 4pm, but were released.

Nyakach DCIO Richard Mathenge had said the suspects had been under investigation for the last one week but there was no evidence connecting them to the killings. “Therefore there is no reason to continue holding the suspects,” said Wechuli.

The suspects: Victor Omondi, James Oluoch, Geoffrey Otieno, Solomon Juma, Naomi Kerubo and Judith Achieng were being held at Papa Onditi Police Station after their arrest.

They were arrested on different dates over the bizarre killings of Francis Owuor and his wife Mary.

Monday, one of the suspects, Omondi, said he is a musician at Sondu Township and he was never interrogated over the incident. “I was only told that I was being arrested in connection with the murder,” he said.

Achieng, 29, said she was picked up from her house in Sondu as police said they were looking for one of the suspects (Otieno) in her house.
