Calls for dumpsite’s relocation

Tharaka Nithi County: Residents of Chuka town, Tharaka Nithi County have demanded the immediate relocation of the local dumpsite.

They have complained that the dumpsite, located on a one-acre piece of land along Kathunguthe Road, has been a source of agony to them.

Residents said since the facility borders residential homes, churches, a school and a river it had become a nuisance.

Mr Alex Gitonga Mbuba said a foul smell emanating from the dumpsite had made the place inhabitable.

“There was a time when a number of residents were complaining of coughs and diarrhoea and we think it is because of this facility,” said Mbuba.

Mbabu said locals have in the past petitioned the municipal council about it but nothing was done.

Executive member for urban development, Tabitha Mbung’u, said the county government was working on plans relocate it.
