UASIN GISHU COUNTY, KENYA: Shock gripped a village in Uasin Gishu County after police exhumed the body of a woman alleged to have been killed and buried secretly by her husband 10 days ago.
This was after the man was said to have surrendered himself to police and led them to the scene where he had interred the body. Eldoret West sub-county commissioner Christopher Wanjau said the suspect from Legebet village surrendered to Moi’s bridge police station where he claimed that he had killed his wife.
According to Wanjau, surrendered a week after murdering his wife and secretly burying the body in their farm. “He surrendered himself to us and after interrogation, he took us to the farm where he had buried his wife’s body,” he said.
Wanjau added that the suspect killed his wife on November 1 following a quarrel.
Police exhumed the body and transferred it to Moi Teaching and Referal Hospital mortuary awaiting further investigations.
The suspect is being held in Eldoret as police grill him on the motive and the events that led to the killing of his wife. The commissioner stated that arbitration is the best solution in solving a dispute and not killing.
Murder cases are becoming rampant in the area with the most recent one taking place in the same village last week where a 30-year-old man killed his two sons before hanging himself after a quarrel with his wife.
Beaten to death
The man is alleged to have slit the throats of his two sons aged two and five years at night before committing suicide.
Wanjau appealed for amicable means in dealing with domestic disputes.
“Murder cases in our region are suddenly on the rise and are worrying, an indication that most marriages have become difficult leading to such heinous acts,” he said.
Meanwhile, security guards manning National Cereals and Produce Board silos in Eldoret allegedly beat a suspect to death when he tried to steal from the offices.
According to a source, the middle-aged man gained access to the buildings after cutting the barbed wire and was cornered by security guards on night patrol.
It is said that the deceased defied orders to stop after being waved by security guards leading to a chase before he was caught and beaten to death.
