Rasanga extends olive branch

Newly sworn-in Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga (pictured) has promised to work with his political opponents to develop the county. Speaking after being sworn-in yesterday, Mr Rasanga said his first priority will be to reunite the people of Siaya to build a prosperous county.

“I would like to invite my opponents in the last elections to come and join hands with me to develop our beloved county,” he said.  He said he would organise a bi-partisan and cross-sectoral meeting of professional and business persons from Siaya soon.

Re-elected

Rasanga was re-elected two months after the High Court nullified his win in the March 4 general election.

He said by the people of Siaya voting for him, he will be accountable to local leadership that listens to them and work tirelessly without fear or favour.

Rasanga said his government would soon introduce several legislations to ensure quick economic growth.

“Legislation to ensure bursaries only benefit the deserving students and that they cover students up to completion of their education and not just a few terms,” said Rasanga.

He also said his government would draw a police and enforcement agency bill to put in place and operationalise the Siaya police service to enhance security and also employ the youth. Among those present were governors Jack Ranguma (Kisumu), Moses Akaranga (Vihiga), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia) and Cyprian Awiti (Homa bay).

Also present was nominated MP Oburu Odinga, who urged the government to stamp out insecurity.
