Church elder forced to hide as congregation storm house demanding their money

There was drama at a market in Embu County recently after members of a congregation of an evangelical church in the area stormed the church chairman’s house demanding their money.

 The faithful bearing tree branches headed to the man’s home alleging that some cash they had contributed earlier was missing.

“We had contributed money for a party and it is evident we have not fully used it. He (the chairman) might have split it with his secretary and treasurer. We want our money back…!” an angry faithful was heard saying.

When the church chair heard the commotion heading towards his home — in the evening hours — he requested his wife to explain to them that he was far and she did not know when he could return.

They tried to call him  on his mobile phone, but it had been switched off.

“We know you are hiding. We will only leave this compound  after getting our money. We can’t contribute money for your stomach. Though we are from the party, we are not satisfied with the way the money was used… We want our money back,” another faithful thundered.

When The Light Side reached the church leader the following morning, he said members had contributed some little money towards the party but the amount could not cater for all the goodies they wanted. He said he was forced to go into hiding because he feared the angry crowd was not ready to listen and would have beaten him up.

Word has it that the man has since moved to another church. He was also involved in another financial scandal in a different church where he was a treasurer.
