Angry mob lynch four suspects over robbery

Tharaka Nithi , Kenya: Four suspected thieves were  lynched by an angry mob at Ngunga village in Kimwimbi location, Tharaka Nithi County.

The four had allegedly broken into a shop in the area on Tuesday night where they stole goods of unknown value.

The owner of the shop reported the incident to area residents and an immediate search for the suspects was launched.

The angry members of the public confronted a middle-aged man suspected to have masterminded the theft and beat him up to disclose the whereabouts of his accomplices.

He directed the mob to a place where the three other suspects were hiding and eventually they were accosted.

The four were given a thorough beating before admitting that they had broken into the shop and were eventually lynched.

Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Johnson Ipara said two of the suspects were on wanted list over robbery.

He, however, cautioned that mob lynching must be avoided at all cost.

“You must report such cases to police so that appropriate action can be taken and in so doing you, facilitate the effectiveness of the police service,” said Ipara.

The four bodies were taken to Chuka General Hospital’s mortuary.
