70-year-old man held over defilement of granddaughters

Elgeyo/Marakwet County: Police in Keiyo District are holding a 70-year-old man over allegations that he defiled his two granddaughters.

The elderly man from Kapchelal Village in Keiyo District has been living with his daughter who is the mother of the children aged five and three years after he and his wife separated several years ago.

According the girls’ mother, who had left them in the care of her father when she went to collect firewood, she came home to find the children crying.

On sensing that something was wrong, she alerted the neighbours.

The suspect escaped death by a whisker after the angry neighbours, who learnt about the incident from  the children, attempted to lynch him but he escaped.

Area AP Commander Joseph Biwott said the man is in custody and would be arraigned in court to answer to defilement charges.
