Commerce Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie has been formally inducted into the council of East African Community (EAC) ministers.

The council is the second highest decision-making organ of the regional association and reports to the summit of the EAC Heads of State.

Ms Kandie was inducted over the weekend in Arusha at the EAC secretariat during the 27th session of the council of ministers that was also used to launch the online brand survey.

The cabinet secretary used the opportunity to argue for, and secured the deferment of the implementation of an EAC gazette notice that would have seen motor vehicle assemblers within the region, especially Kenya and Uganda, lose profit through the imposition of tax on imported spare parts.

She also supported the council’s recommendation to compel partner states to hasten the implementation of past decisions as a way of moving the community forward.

Ms Kandie reiterated Kenya’s commitment to the EAC integration process.
