Busia County: Funyula MP Paul Otuoma has urged the Busia County government to move fast to repossess public assets that were grabbed by private developers.

Otuoma noted that there were huge chunks of public land that were grabbed through corruption by individuals and private companies and that needed to be repossessed to enable the county government effectively serve residents.

Corrupt means

“The county government should put in place measures that will ensure all public assests are recovered from individuals who acquired them through dubious means,” he said.

He added: “Private developers who are rushing to fence public land should not be allowed to continue with such impunity.”

He made the remarks yesterday at the County Assembly of Busia during a courtesy call he paid Speaker Benard Wamalwa.

His remarks followed revelations that the assembly hall, which is under construction, could not be expanded because part of the land that once belonged to the local authority had been grabbed by a private developer.

Public land and several government houses were allegedly sold to individuals through corrupt means.
