Mombasa Republican Council: Employ locals mining company told

The outlawed Mombasa Republican Council will not be wiped out if the coastal people continue to be discriminated against especially in employment.

This is according to Matuga MP Hassan Mwanyoha who spoke during a public baraza at Kombani in the presence of Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku and National Cohesion and Integration Commission [NCIC] boss, Mzalendo Kibunjia. 

 He lashed out at mining companies accusing them of employ non-residents of Kwale County.

‘’Let the management of the mining company respect the residents by conducting fair recruitment drives,’’ Mwanyoha demanded. He threatened to mobilise locals to demonstrate against them if they fail to employ residents.

This comes a few weeks after Base Titanium Company employed more than forty youths in the area as security men.

Company General Manager Joe Schwarz said locals have been given priority and only experts were sourced from outside.

“We have recruited locals who now operate the two largest machines in the world,” said Schwarz.

 Mwanyoha however still maintained there was discrimination of employment at the mining company.
