Taita Taveta, Kenya: CORD leaders have called for dissolution of affiliate parties within ODM and Wiper.
Former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, TIP leader Kalembe Ndile, governors Kivutha Kibwana and John Mruttu said it is only through such unity that the country will achieve political maturity.
The leaders were speaking at Chala, Taita Taveta County, at a funeral service of the late Julius Kibwana, the father of Makueni Governor Kibwana at the weekend.
Others present were Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr and Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo.
Prof Kibwana said, “It is advisable that we in CORD become one thing and Jubilee coalition does the same so that we can only have two political formations in the country.”
He said the move will end tribal balkanisation orchestrated through collusion of bigger communities against smaller ones.
Kalonzo said CORD became more united after the Makueni by-election, adding that Wiper party will consider talking to its unsuccessful candidates with petitions in court against ODM counterparts to withdraw them.
He cited the case of Taita-Taveta governor saying; “I know a Wiper candidate Jacinta Mwatela has a petition in court challenging the election of Mruttu. We will persuade her to withdraw the petition and find a working formula with Mruttu.”
Kalonzo said CORD principals Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula and himself, will traverse the country preaching peace and unity, adding that they are strongly united and share ideologies.
Mutula Jnr urged CORD supporters not to waver, as that will give their opponents an edge over them.
Ndile said it is time CORD fraternity took stock of its bonafide members and let go those who want to betray the coalition.
