Businessman Paul Rege, 34, got a call at about 6:20am yesterday.  The caller on the other end of the line was a project supervisor at the Kenya Airports Authority.  “The airport is on fire,” he told Mr Rege.

“I first thought it was a prank,” he told The Standard. Rege is the technical manager for the family owned Micro-City Computers. “But then I knew my goods are gone.”

Rege hurriedly rushed to the airport. “I found there was a lot of security. I pleaded with a group of the security personnel to let me in so that I try salvage my goods,” he said.

The goods he was frantically trying to salvage were packed in boxes.  They contained video surveillance cameras and servers for an ongoing contract their company had been awarded by the Kenya Airports Authority. But it was too late.

“I estimate the loss to be between Sh98 million to Sh100 million,” he said fighting back tears.

The firm, Micro-City Computers was contracted by the KAA to install surveillance cameras around JKIA.
