Residents of Embu town were treated to a shocking incident on Wednesday after a porter suspected of stealing potatoes started eating grass near Marikiti market.

The man aged who is a porter at the food market was found eating grass by traders at around 11 am.

A large crowd immediately gathered to witness the bizarre scene with some claiming that he had been bewitched.

Embu West deputy county commissioner Daniel Obudo said they got information that the man had allegedly stolen a sack of potatoes at the market.

Traders who spoke to The Standard said the man stole the potatoes from a woman who had hired him to carry it.

“He told her that he had lost the potatoes and she gave him six days to return it or else he will face grave consequences,” claimed a trader.

Traders said after the man was unable to return the potatoes within the given days, the woman’s threats seemed to work against him.

They claimed the woman was earlier at the scene where the man was eating grass and asked his family to pay her Sh10,000 before noon failure to which they should not bother going to her.

Obudo said the man’s friends and family took him to a hospital in the town.

The Embu market chairman Robert Mugendi said the man has been working as a porter and carries goods at the potatoes and cabbage sections of the market at a fee.
