Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has redeployed some of his staff to occupy Municipal Council of Kiambu offices.
On Saturday, The Standard on Sunday established that activities were taking place at the facility, with a number of service trucks belonging to Kabogo’s government parked outside the compound.
“Kiambu is the headquarters of the larger Kiambu County Government. The county staff members will be moving there since their offices are based there,” a statement from Kabogo’s Director of Communications, Mukami Kamau said.
On record
Kabogo is on record saying he would distribute his government departments through various towns across the county to enhance efficiency and ensure proximity to the people.
Kiambu Municipal Council offices were reserved for Kabogo, but he declined to use them, saying they were in a poor state. ?
He has, however, maintained that Kiambu will remain the county headquartres, but will still operate from Thika for six months as they construct better offices in Kiambu town.
“The staffs are not moving to where the governor’s office was reserved. There are some new structures being constructed at the Kiambu Municipal Council and that is where the governor’s office will be based,” the statement partly read.
Six-month period
The six- month period expires in October this year, and The Standard on Sunday has established that no construction of new offices has begun.
Senator Kimani Wamatangi, 11 area legislators and a section of County representatives have publicly differed with Kabogo, terming the move as unilateral decision.
Kiambu town is the gazetted headquarters following unanimous agreement by local leaders.
