Nairobi, Kenya: A parliamentary committee has recommended the nullification of a gazette notice published by the salaries commission that reduced MPs pay from Sh850,000 to Sh532,000.

The report by the Committee on Delegated Legislation says the Salaries and Remuneration Commission did not follow the law in publishing the new salary structure and hence the notice is “null and void.”

Baringo North MP William Cheptumo tabled the report last evening. The committee only sat this week after the election of Cheptumo as chairperson and his deputy.

Meanwhile, Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo is seeking a report from the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) on the Biometric Voter Registration kits which failed to function in the General Election.

Midiwo said the PAC report should give details of the individual roles played by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials, leaving Kenya with a Sh7.3 billion debt.
