When you hear that Standard Three pupils have been expelled over allegations of sexual misconduct, or that a step- mother ruptured the daughter’s uterus while beating her, do you scream or start praying for the country?
Fathers, too, are not exempt from this drama, there was a case of a three-year-old with septic wounds all over his body because he peed on his step mom’s bed and his father ‘disciplined’ him.
Denial
Today’s generation has children for all the wrong reasons. Forget propagating the family genes. Sometimes back, we procreated to ‘cement’ the relationship unlike now when we have more of these whoops! moments where the little bundle is unplanned and even unwanted.
It seems some parents actually think children are like goats or chickens and they can take care of themselves until needed for future propagation (sons) or conversion to cash (daughters). The best solution has, therefore, become boarding schools from the moment they can dress themselves.
A certain all-girls boarding school funded by the Anglican Church was all over the media recently when it suspended six Standard Three pupils for lesbianism. This is the third time this is happening; yet the parents are still in denial!
First, it happened in 2010 when some Standard Five pupils were caught by teachers, reprimanded and expelled. A PTA meeting was called and all the parents were advised to be vigilant and also to take their children for counselling.
The situation improved but last March, it reared its ugly head again when some Standard Two pupils were expelled for the same reason. Last week, Standard Three girls were expelled and the situation hit the press when parents got into an uproar on the unfairness of expulsion as a remedy.
The new age enthusiasts, who have embraced westernised thinking, contend that engaging in self-exploration or mutual exploration (masturbation) is normal. And expulsion is akin to beating a child because of left-handedness.
Veteran
According to the headmistress, one of the culprits is a veteran: “After only about two days in the school, she was pulling other pupils towards her in the bathroom, which meant she was already spoilt.”
I wonder why they kept her at school and only issued warnings! Could it be that the parents came and had financial discussions with the administration or are they part of societies ‘untouchables’?
Everyone blames the school and forgets who birthed those children and gave them the wobbly foundation currently being reshaped to ape non-family values.
This generation of parents is no longer adapting to change but merely adopting it. We have abdicated our duty as parents and as a community. TV and maids are our children’s role models, and when the little angels become little devils, we simply shove them into boarding schools to be shaped by their peers.

Our parliament makes a mockery of laws and regulations, as was seen by the various Bills that were tossed out on technicalities. Children have been forgotten and yet they are the leaders of tomorrow.
