Voters begin to confirm their registration details by SMS, online

Kenyans will Monday start verifying their voter registration details ahead of the General Election.

One can confirm their registration details at their respective polling centres or get the information by sending their national ID card or passport number to 15872 through a short text message.

One can also check online by visiting IEBC website http://vote.iebc.or.ke and key in their national ID or passport number.

The exercise will end on January 27, 35 days to the election.

Name of the voter, county, constituency, ward and station in which a voter is registered will be displayed upon request. The final voters’ list will be made accessible to the public and political parties on the IEBC website.

The verification of voter details seeks to ensure no eligible voter is left out on account of wrong information entered. In the 2007 disputed presidential elections, claims of double registration and multiple voting as well as voting by non-existing people were reported.

IEBC embarked on cleaning up the voter register following the end of registration on December 18, last year that saw about 70 per cent of eligible voters listed.
