Iteere to sue ‘Sonko’ over assassination claims

By David Ochami

Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere has said his reputation has been injured by Makadara MP Gidion Mbuvi’s claims on Sunday linking him to three assassination plots.

Mbuvi declared at a rally in Mombasa that Iteere was plotting to kill him, former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga and a television journalist.

The MP described Njenga as an innocent and youthful person who is being persecuted for leading reformed youths.
Iteere said: “As an individual, my reputation has been damaged and it is up to the legislator to prove his allegations or the law should take its course. The MP should not even imagine I can be part of any attempt to eliminate him. He should prove his claims,” Iteere said.

present himself

He spoke at Coast provincial police headquarters in Mombasa on Monday after meeting with senior police officers in Mombasa to discuss stalled police houses.

Meanwhile, Coast police boss Aggrey Adoli warned that he will seek an arrest warrant against the MP if he does not present himself voluntarily to any police station.

“Mbuvi’s allegations are being treated as incitement and breach of the peace,” Adoli said, and added that the MP could answer charges of incitement and propagating hate speech.

Meanwhile, Iteere said his office is closely following the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) saga since it unfolded with a view to investigating it.

recent disappearance

“We have learnt about it in the media. But since it involves a lot of money, we will investigate it,” Iteere said who added the matter was of great public intense.

He also urged residents of Coast Province to report any villager who has visited Somalia and returned recently as a precaution against Al Shabaab and other militant groupings.

Adoli said a team of investigators has been deployed to Mombasa to probe the recent disappearance and killing of Islamic priest Samir Khan who was under terrorism investigation.
