A major plan has been rolled out to reorganise and upgrade markets in Mombasa County.
County officials yesterday said the reforms will see Kongowea market, one of the large wholesale and retail facility in East Africa, reorganised with access roads, parking, garbage management, drainage, CCTVs and lighting system to modernise its operations. The market that attracts commodities from upcountry and Tanzania serves Mombasa and Coast region residents.
Trade and tourism
It is patronised by more than 60,000 people daily including traders and customers and offers a lifeline to the tourism industry at the Coast. Trade, Tourism and Investment Executive Fauz Rashid said they have fixed the drainage system and would relocate traders operating on access roads and parking area in a month’s time to restore order.
