Kakuzi MD dies in Mombasa road accident

Mombasa: A managing director of one of the largest coffee growing companies in Kenya died yesterday in a road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

Kakuzi Limited Managing Director Paul Epsom died after the vehicle he was driving was involved in a road accident, which occurred at Pipeline near Maungu town in Taita-Taveta County.

Police said the 58-year-old died while undergoing treatment at Voi District Hospital where he was rushed immediately after the accident.

According to Taita-Taveta Police Commander Richard Bitonga and Voi Traffic Base Commander Fatuma Ali, the Kenyan of British  origin was in the company of his son Jasper Epsom, 21, who escaped unscathed during the accident.

Ms Ali said the vehicle, a Toyota Prado the former MD was driving, got a tyre burst and rolled several times after Epsom lost control of it.

Police said at the time of the accident, Epsom and his son were travelling towards Nairobi.

“The deceased was immediately rushed to Voi District Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. We have confirmed the deceased is the MD for Kakuzi Limited, Thika,” said Ali.
