Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has nominated one of her former opponents in last year's gubernatorial race as the county secretary, pending approval by the County Assembly.
Kawira picked Dr Kiambi Atheru for the seat, currently held by Rufus Miriti who also served in the same capacity under former governor Kiraitu Murungi's tenure.
Atheru, an expert in religion and development studies dropped out of the governor race opting to support Governor Mwangaza.
He is expected to appear before Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) for vetting on April 17. A team of the MCAs under the chairmanship of Speaker Ayub Bundi will vet the governor's nominee.
Majority Leader Evans Mawira of Mitunguu Ward is also among members of the team constituted two weeks ago to vet the county secretary nominee.
