Campaigns to popularise ODM leader Raila Odinga in the Mt Kenya region have set off with Murang’a leaders taking charge in the constituencies, ahead of the Sagana-3 leaders meeting.
In the meetings yesterday, the Murang’a leadership sensitised the voters to only elect leaders allied to the Jubilee Party to support the candidature of Raila for the presidency.
The meetings that took place in Kangema, Mathioya, Kigumo and Gatanga constituencies saw the leaders who included the former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, MPs Nduati Ngugi ( Gatanga), Peter Kimari (Mathioya), Muturi Kigano (Kangema), Wangari Mwaniki (Kigumo) and Maina Kamanda (nominated).
They said the time was ripe for the region to support Raila after years of unending mistrust.
Kenneth speaking in the meeting said the country had decided to elect Raila for the Presidency thus he should be supported as he has the capacity and experience to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Raila has been aspiring for the Presidency for years and now President Kenyatta is supporting his bid upon realising his nationalism compared to his opponents,” said Kenneth.
The MPs drummed up support for Kenneth to be picked as the running mate for Raila as he has been instrumental in the fight for democracy and development.
Nduati and Wangari said the time was ripe for Kenyans to support Raila for the top seat as he had struggled to reshape the destiny of the country and approached Uhuru for a handshake.
The Gatanga MP said the Mt Kenya region should support Raila and who in return would settle on Kenneth as the running mate.
“We have enough votes to support Raila and ask him to pick our son for the deputy position, as Murang’a has not enjoyed the presidency,” said Nduati.
