Kenyatta inspected the 84 km Kenol-Sagana-Marua Highway accompanied by Transport CS James Macharia [CS James Macharia ]

President Uhuru Kenyatta today inspected the expansion of the Kenol - Sagana - Marua road, a new four-lane dual carriageway that forms part of the Trans-Africa Highway.

Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia shared pictures on his social media, showing the President inspecting the 84km highway, which he says will ease congestion.

Macharia said the highway’s upgrade will improve connections and boost the economy of the linked regions.

Other roads under construction in the region include the 45 kilometre Mau Mau Spur roads in Gatundu North and 30km in Gatundu South.

Other projects include the Ndarugu River-Mangu (Bob Harris road), Gatukuyu-Mataara, Gatundu-Munyu-ini (Ituramiro), Thika-Magumu and secondary highway from Wamwangi-Ichaweri-Mangu.

Gatundu North MP Anne Kibe also called for construction of the Gatukuyu-Makwa-Ngorongo road.

On March 1, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) pondered constructing an elevated road in Karatina town, a highway that costs Sh33 billion.

In a public participation forum at Karatina Stadium, the agency said the project would involve the construction of a viaduct over the present road.

A viaduct is an extended bridge-like structure, carrying a road or railway across a valley or other low ground.

The public participation brought together Project Affected Persons (PAPs), officials of water companies, Kenya Power Company, and other relevant government agencies on land acquisition and project implementation from Sagana to Marua.

“Karatina town is being considered to have a viaduct, which is an elevated road over the existing road, to accommodate the seamless flow of traffic,” read a statement from KeNHA.
