A pastor who impregnated his daughters yesterday pleaded guilty to defilement charges before a Kirinyaga court.
The 51-year-old man, identified in court as HB to protect the identity of his victims, stunned the court after he admitted to charges of defiling his daughters aged 14 and 16 before escaping to Embu County to avoid arrest.
The police had said HB was a pastor at a local church.
He ran away from his home but was cornered in Mbeere South where he had disguised himself as a desperate herder from Somalia who was looking for a job.
What sold him out, the police said, was his accent and suspicious residents got hold of him and reported to the local chief who notified the police.
Senior Principal Magistrate Anthony Mwicigi, sitting at Baricho Law Courts, asked the accused what relationship he had with the two girls in the case and he admitted that they were his daughters. “They are my daughters... I slept with them and made them pregnant,” he said.
When the charges were read to him by the court clerk, he did not flinch or deny. “Yes, I slept with my daughters,” he said to the shock of those in court.
The magistrate noted that a plea of guilt had been entered after the confession.
He ruled that the accused appears before the same court tomorrow for sentencing, at the same time giving the prosecution time to produce birth certificates of the victims.
State prosecutor Patricia Gikunju had told court she needed time to get the victims’ birth certificates to ascertain their ages.
Birth certificates are mandatory in a defilement case.
HB was charged with defiling his 16-year-old daughter on diverse dates between June 1 and June 30, 2019 at their home in Kinyakiiru village within Kirinyaga West sub-County.
In the second count, the court heard that in August 2020, HB defiled and impregnated his 14-year-old daughter at their home. The 16-year-old girl has a seven-month-old baby while the 14-year-old is six months pregnant.
The magistrate ordered all those handling the matter to maintain privacy to protect the victims who are primary school pupils.
