Joy as ACK Mt Kenya diocese gets new bishop

The ACK Mount Kenya South diocese has a new bishop following the election of Charles Muturi yesterday.

Muturi will take over from Bishop Timothy Ranji who retired after serving since 2004.

The bishop-elect will be consecrated on December 29 at the Kiambu town ACK cathedral where the election took place.

Muturi will be in charge of more than 200 churches and 100,000 worshipers.

He acted as an assist bishop to Ranji for eight years. Muturi, who will serve for another eight years will be the sixth diocesan bishop.

Addressing the media after the election, the bishop-elect, thanked God for his new role as the church’s leader in the region.

He vowed to ensure servant leadership and work with other church leaders and faithful to move the diocese forward.

“I go home not saying that I have been elevated but knowing that I have been allowed to become a servant. It is a tough job but I know God will guide me and see me through," he said.

He declared that he will continue to implement the strategic plan of his predecessor.

The diocese’s Vicar General Kenneth Munanga hailed the election as transparent and above board.

“We are all happy with the outcome. We are appealing to the new bishop to steer the diocese to greater heights,” he said.
