With only a day to the sixth devolution conference, Kirinyaga County Public Health officers have distributed over 100,000 condoms for use during the occasion.

The condoms were given out for free at all the social places including bars, restaurants and hotels for partners who want to engage in safe sex during the period.

When the Standard on Saturday crew caught up with one of the distributors, they said they had to ensure all the visitors were safe.

“We ordered for these condoms well in advance since we are aware of the nature of human beings, they will certainly be socializing but should be in a safe manner,” he said on condition of anonymity.

Hospitality service providers said that although the free condoms had been distributed to their premises, they too had some in stock for the Monday conference.

Change of route

Governor Anne Waiguru issued a notice to all PSV operators informing them of changes in routes.

According to the notice, all PSVs from Nairobi to Kerugoya will use the Sagana-Kagia- Baicho route and vice versa and completely avoid Kutus town which is the venue of the conference.

Vehicles from Kianyaga, Kimunye and Mwea will also use the Rukenya junction to join the Kutus road and will not be allowed into the town.

No vehicle will use the Kutus – Kerugoya road up to the Kiamichiri junction where motorists will divert from Kerugoya.

A special parking bay for the delegates has been set up at the Kirinyaga University grounds, the venue for the five-day conference
