Day schools in Kirinyaga post impressive KCSE results

In Kirinyaga County, day secondary schools posted impressive results in the just released KCSE examination.

Morris Njoka Njoki who was at Rukenya Mixed Day Secondary in Kirinyaga East Sub-County, was ranked among the most improved students after scoring A- despite getting 294 in KCPE.

The student who got 74 points has been trekking six kilometres daily to school. He aspires to be a software engineer.

He narrated to Sunday Standard how he endured the cold and rainy weather to get to school on time and in most cases on an empty stomach.

“You can imagine waking up at 4am daily for four years then walking for three kilometres to school and the same distance back come rain or sunshine yet I have managed the impressive grade,” Njoka said.

His parents were elated by their son’s performance and attributed it to the grace of God.

Other day mixed secondary schools that recorded good results are Kiandieri, Gachatha and Kiaritha with each having a student or two scoring A-.

Kabare Girls High School, a national school, managed 18 (A–) and 36 (B+) while the mean score improved from 7.77 last year to 8.802.

School principal Lilian Muhuni said she was still downloading the results for the school before she can give a comprehensive report

In the public schools category, Ngiriambu Girls High School, recorded significant improvement by posting a mean grade of 7.13 up from the 6.87 last year.

In the private schools category, Mt Kenya Boys High School produced Ruel Kipngetich who scored B+ of 67 points despite getting 271 marks in KCPE while other 16 students scored a minimum of D+ .

The school's team leader Sarah Muriithi attributed the good grades to hard work, diligence and fear of God and students discipline.

The Effort Senior School had a student who scored B- being its best performer in the examination.
