Business Weekly—KTN’s popular and longest running local business TV show —celebrated the anniversary of its founding on Wednesday.

The show, that focuses on analysis of the general state of the economy and the corporate sector, is the longest running weekly business magazine on Kenyan television since it was founded 12 years ago.

Speaking during the anniversary celebrations and the programme’s relaunch, Standard Group Deputy Chairman and Strategy Advisor Paul Melly said KTN would continue to set the pace in innovative business coverage. Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Chief Executive Martin Oduor Otieno said the bank had invested more than Sh200 million in sponsoring the programme, which has reflected in the growth of the KCB brand locally and regionally.

Green themes

KCB has been the programme’s corporate sponsor for the period it has been on air. "The show has been of immense value to the country and has also helped in growing our business by increasing our visibility," he said. The bank has operations across East Africa and Otieno said they are now considering going ‘further a field’.

Standard Group Managing Director Paul Wanyaga said the new look show would include more segments on industry’s role in environmental conservation.

"The show has over the years demonstrated that businesses is not just about business, there are other issues that go hand in hand with it like matters going green... there are opportunities in going green and the programme will be paying attention to such issues," he said.

KCB is among the few local companies that have embedded green themes in their operations.

Last year, the bank became the first company in the region to issue a sustainability report, which contains details of the bank’s operations and their impact on the environment.
