Nairobi couple charged with stabbing neighbour over daughter's defilement claims

A couple in Pipeline, Nairobi, have been arraigned before a Nairobi court for causing grievous harm to their neighbour over child defilement claims.

Collins Opiyo and Grace Nyambura were accused of committing the offence against D.M. on August 15, 2024, at Pipeline area.

According to court details, D.M. was at home around when, around 3pm, he heard a knock on his door. 

Reportedly, he took time to open the door as the knocks continued. At some point, he heard a voice of a little girl calling him.

He said that when he opened the door, a group of people, including the accused couple, stormed in and attacked him while accusing him of defiling their daughter.

The attackers demanded Sh50,000 compensation from him. 

The gang allegedly threatened to kill him and throw his body in the forest if he failed to comply with their cash demand.

Fearing for his life, the complainant begged them to take him to a police station where the matter would be handled.

According to court details, some of the culprits fled from the house because he had sustained serious injuries, including being stabbed several times in the hand and head.

It is stated the accused persons, who claimed to be the parents of the girl, assisted the complainant to a police station where he was referred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for treatment because he was in a serious condition.

Thereafter, the complainant explained to authorities what had happened leading to the arrest of the couple.

When they were arraigned in court, they denied the charges telling the court that the complainant had indeed defiled their daughter and efforts to bring him to book had failed.

They were released on a bond of Sh100,000 each pending a hearing in February of next year.
