Omole takes over as General Secretary of rebranded Communist Party Marxist-Kenya

 Communist Party Marxist-Kenya party members led by General Secretary Booker Omole during a press conference in Nairobi. 

Political activist Booker Omole has been elected General Secretary of the Communist Party Marxist-Kenya (CPM-K).

Omole was elected on Saturday, November 16, during the party’s second national congress at the United Kenya Club, which brought together delegates from across Kenya and around the world.

The congress, held after a period of intense political activity, also witnessed the party’s rebranding.

He replaces the previous leadership following a bitter split from an earlier faction.

In his acceptance speech, Omole reaffirmed the party’s commitment to workers' rights and its Marxist principles.

"We have ratified the reconstitution of our party as the Communist Party Marxist-Kenya. This rebranding underscores our unwavering commitment to the full emancipation of our people," he said.

The outspoken activist also outlined the party's renewed focus on restructuring its leadership and strengthening its grassroots support.

The congress saw the election of key leaders, including Mwaivu Kaluka as national chairperson and Michelle Anyango as vice-chairperson.

The event featured speakers from several countries, including South Africa, Germany and China, highlighting the international scope of the party’s movement.

Under the rebranding, CPM-K adopted new symbols, including a red star, hammer and sickle in gold, with a red flag and gold lining.

Omore noted the official colours are now gold, black and red, representing the party’s revolutionary heritage.
