Machogu's clan-mate to replace him in Education

President William Ruto's nominee for Education Julius Ogamba Migos could succeed his clan-mate Ezekiel Machogu.

Migos becomes the fourth individual from the larger Gusii Region to be appointed to the Education docket, which is one of the most powerful dockets in government.

Should Parliament approve his nomination, Migos will join Prof Sam Ongeri (2007-2012) and Dr Fred Matiangi (2015) as some of the leaders from the region to head the Education docket.

The 57-year-old holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nairobi, a Diploma in Law from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

He was a team member in the President Ruto campaign think-tank ahead of the 2022 elections.

Migos ran for Kitutu Chache North parliamentary seat in the 2017 general elections and become second to the then MP Jimmy Angwenyi.

In the 2022 General Elections, he teamed up with Machogu to contest the Kisii governorship seat, but they lost to ODM's Simba Arati.

Migos is described as an accomplished advocate with nearly 30 years of legal experience. In March 2023, he succeeded Samson Mwathethe, who had served as Chairman KenGen Board since November 2020.

Ex-Kisii Governor James Ongwae said Migos will undoubtedly bring a fresh perspective and valuable insights to the crucial role of shaping the nation's educational landscape.

"He is a qualified individual who has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to the principles of justice and education. His dedication and passion for these fields will undoubtedly serve our country well in the years ahead."

Former FKF President Sam Nyamweya thanked President William Ruto for the nomination of Migos, saying he believes the new CS is up to the task.

"He has been nominated to a critical docket. We congratulate all the CSs who have made a comeback and the new ones joining the Executive."

Kenya High Commissioner to Uganda Joash Maangi and Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi congratulated the nominee, saying he was equal to the task.
