Mystery over death of doctor, his lover found holding hands in bed

Two lovers found dead while holding hands in bed may have taken their own lives, according to investigators.

Detectives say a pair of syringes and bottles of medical drugs recovered suggested a well-planned death.

The bodies of Vincent Bosire Nyambunde, a medical intern at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, and his girlfriend identified as Angela,  in their mid-twenties, were found on Friday morning.

The woman recently jetted from the US, where she is reported to be married.

Investigators say one of them may have played a part in the other's death before committing suicide. Reports indicated that the lady died before the man.

Before the bizarre death, the woman had been treated at the KTRH following a botched suicide by ingestion of an unidentified chemical and it is yet to be clear how she may have left the hospital, only to be found dead in the house of the medical intern boyfriend, whose body was also found beside hers in bed.

Nyambunde’s mother, Mary Nyaboke said she had received a call from her son’s colleagues at the hospital, inquiring about his whereabouts on Thursday morning.

“They told me he had been discharged the previous evening but could not be traced since,” the mother said.

The observation that is subject to confirmation by pathologists pointed to the earlier death of the woman whose body was swollen and decomposition had started to take place, unlike that of the man whose death seemed to have happened a day or two later.

Details of the bottles and syringes could not be immediately revealed, but it was believed they could be theatre drugs.

The doctor’s friends say the two had been dating for a long time and that the woman had been supporting him financially.

It is reported that at the time the woman was admitted to the hospital, the young doctor was barred from seeing her, courtesy of orders from her family.

“The boy’s parents were very much against the illicit relationship of their son and the woman who had been married in the US. She even has a child with her husband who also lives there. But it seems he was determined to die with her,” a close family member said.

The mother, however, could not say more about the love life of her son due to the shock she had yet to recover from.

A cloud of grief overshadowed Bogeeka 2 Village in Rigoma, Nyamira County, the entire weekend as villagers tried to come to terms with the death of their kin.

The doctor was among the top 10 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education(KCSE) in the country in the year 2017 and he was about to wind up his internship program before being licensed as a practitioner.

After the news of the two deaths broke out, social media was awash with the bizarre news, with numerous stories emerging.

The catchiest was that of the woman sending monies to the doctor to buy land, build a house, and buy a car, only to find none upon arriving home.

But these are reports the family could not commit to.

“We have left everything with the police. They will tell us what it was,” Nyambunde’s elder sister Wilkister Moraa said.

Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kases said investigations by a special team of detectives had taken over the matter and preliminary reports will be issued after postmortem examinations have been concluded.

“As of now, we cannot speculate because already, detectives are on and we expect a report over the same,” Kases said. The two lovers found dead while hands in bed in a rented house in Kisii Town may have committed suicide due to pressure on their illicit affair.
