The Wajir High School football team receive their overall winner trophy. [Mohamed Saman, Standard] Wajir High School has clinched the soccer and basketball boys' title in the just concluded Wajir East school games. The stunning tournament saw Hon DM Amin Girls scoop the netball and basketball titles for the girls' category. The tournament also saw Furaha Secondary School emerge victorious in boys' volleyball, with Senior Chief Adano Girls claiming the girls' volleyball crown. In a significant move to promote sports and unity among students, the tournament was organized by the Kenya Secondary Schools Association in partnership with the Siyad Foundation. The games featured a variety of sports, including football, volleyball, athletics, and basketball. Students from different schools competed vigorously, demonstrating their skills and teamwork. The games were held over several days at various venues, culminating in an exciting finale that saw enthusiastic participation and support from the local community. In recognition of the achievements, the Siyad Foundation also donated trophies to the winners and provided medals and kits to all finalists, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and encouragement among the participants. Mr Alibash Mohamed, the Chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools Association in Wajir East highlighted the importance of the event saying, "These games are more than just a competition. They provide a platform for students to showcase their talents, build friendships, and learn the values of discipline and teamwork". Adan Mohamed, a representative of the Siyad Foundation expressed his pride in supporting the event. "Our foundation is committed to empowering the youth through education and sports. The Wajir East School Games are a testament to the incredible potential of these students. Mohamed said under the leadership of its founder Siyad Hassan, the foundation has a history of providing substantial support to schools in Wajir County. The foundation he said, has made significant strides in nurturing student talents by sponsoring and celebrating inter-school tournaments. according to him, the foundation beyond sports has been instrumental in promoting social cohesion and combating drug and substance abuse within the community. He has assured them of a brighter future, emphasizing the foundation's dedication to their well-being and growth," said Mr Mohamed. Mr Dekow Mohamed who is the Wajir High School coach praised the initiative saying the games had brought the community together. "It's inspiring to see our students excel and gain recognition for their hard work. This event has motivated many young people to pursue sports alongside their academic studies," he said.
