Renowned Kenyan businesswoman Catherine Wambugu has been involved in a serious road accident along the Nyeri–Nyahururu highway.
The founder of Wambugu Apples shared the news on her social media pages, confirming that she is currently hospitalised but in stable condition following the crash, which occurred on Tuesday night.
In an emotional update, Wambugu revealed that two of her employees tragically lost their lives in the accident.
She identified them as Teresa Mumbi Mwaniki and another staff member known as Dommie.
“Hey good people. I just want to update you that I got an accident yesterday night along the Nyeri–Nyahururu highway. I’m currently hospitalised, but fortunately enough, I’m okay. Although I lost two good friends who are staff of Wambugu Apples,” she wrote.
The businesswoman asked Kenyans to keep her and the families of the deceased in their prayers as they come to terms with the loss.
The news was first made public by entrepreneur and philanthropist Dickson Ndirangu, a close friend of Wambugu, who shared an update on Facebook confirming that she was recuperating in hospital and urged the public to ignore any false rumours.
Following the announcement, messages of support and condolences poured in from Kenyans, including public figures and members of the business community.
“God always has a reason for doing his things on his way. We have lost Terry and Dommie, but God also knew his reason too. You are healed in the mighty name of God,” wrote one Facebook user.
“Standing with you sis may God comfort you at this time and may his healing hand be upon you. Poleni sana,” another added.
Catherine Wambugu is a respected agribusiness entrepreneur and the driving force behind Wambugu Apples, a venture she named after her father.
She has been widely celebrated for transforming apple farming into a profitable enterprise and for inspiring young entrepreneurs across the country.
