Mombasa ASK Show attracts 190 exhibitors

Traditionally, the annual agricultural event has been held in the month of August.

Dance and song ushered in the start of this year's Mombasa International Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK)  show yesterday.

This year's event is themed 'Promoting Innovation and Technology in Agriculture and Trade'.

Traditionally, the annual agricultural event has been held in the month of August.

Hundreds of Mombasa residents joined officials in marking the start of the show.

A church service to launch the show was presided over by the head of the Anglican Church in Mombasa Bishop Alphonce Mwaro Baya at the ACK Memorial Cathedral. The service traditionally symbolises the start of the event.

The Kenya Navy band marched through the streets of Mombasa town from the Mackinon Market to the ACK Memorial Cathedral.

''We are holding the show with increased exhibitors. This year we have 190 exhibitors from Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ukraine, China and Uganda,'' ASK Mombasa Show Chairperson Anisa Abdalah said.

She revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta would tour the show, adding that security has been beefed up.
