At least five Heads of State are expected in Nairobi for the official announcement of Raila Odinga's candidacy for chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC).

The event is being led by President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.

South Sudan President Salva Kiir, who also serves as the Chairperson of the East African Community (EAC), is already in Nairobi for the event.

He was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Trade Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya early Tuesday morning.

Also expected to grace the occasion are Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania.

Odinga will be going against three other candidates for the AUC role. He has received support from notable quarters including former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo.
