Ruto endorses Biden's Roadmap to end Israel - Palestine conflict

President William Ruto has endorsed the peace plan proposed by United States President Joe Biden to address the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

In a statement on June 3, President Ruto pleaded with Israel and Palestine leadership to consider the plan that aims at ending the conflict among the warring nations.

“Given the astronomical human suffering that this conflict has inflicted, I implore Israeli and Palestinian leadership, and all parties of goodwill, to support this plan.

It is my firm belief that if this plan is strongly endorsed and faithfully observed, it will form the basis for a permanent ceasefire and the implementation of a two-state solution, with Israel and Palestine coexisting alongside each other, contributing to a more stable and just region and world,” stated Ruto.

The proposed plan was jointly initiated by the US, Qatar, and Egyp,  which proposed a six-week ceasefire in the first phase.

The comprehensive plan also involved the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of Gaza and the release of hostages and remains.

It also involves the return of Palestinians to North Gaza and access to humanitarian assistance for conflict-affected persons.

President Ruto further noted the benefits, stating that if the plan holds then it might pave the way for a reconstruction programme for Gaza.
