Police have arrested the man suspected to be behind the killing of Mount Kenya University (MKU) student Faith Musembi.
The suspect, David Kioko, 25, was arrested after preliminary investigations showed he may have been involved in her death.
He is a student at Tom Mboya University.
According to Thika OCPD Lawrence Muchangi the suspect is currently being interrogated.
The arrest comes after MKU student’s council Secretary General has called on the police to prioritize the probe.
In a memo to students Carlos Abich said that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) should expedite investigations into the matter.
The body of Ms Musembi, 19, who was seven months pregnant was found lying on her bed in her Pilot Estate rented apartment in the outskirts of Thika town.
“The community and the student welfare are in dire need of answers, closure and most importantly justice,” said Abich.
Ms Musembi is believed to have been murdered on Wednesday May 8, 2024, hours after her kidnapper allegedly demanded ransom from her parents.
Her lifeless body was found by her father Boniface Musembi, the next day after breaking into the house.
A post-mortem conducted at the General Kago Funeral Home showed that she died due to excessive bleeding.
According to the report she had bleeding in her uterus which was caused by abruption placenta (detachment of the placenta).
Mr Musembi told the media that his daughter’s alleged abductor demanded an upward of Sh27,000 as ransom to spare her.
After receiving the ransom demand, the family made a report at the Thika Police Station and according to her mother officers at the station did not act.
